HELLO I’M LYNN
I’m the founder of Devata Holistic Centre. I’ve been passionate about women’s health and wellbeing for as long as I can remember. I have dedicated my work to specialising in helping women through hormonal shifts, infertility, pregnancy and post natal.
I LOVE working with women when they are pregnant. Having two babies myself, I understand the importance of having regular holistic treatments and just how AMAZING they feel to your sore, tired body and weary head.
I have created this program so I can work with women individually over a course of sessions, supporting any common pregnancy problems as well as helping you prepare for the birth of your baby.
Since having my own two pregnancies (very close together) I also appreciate the necessity for post natal care and use specialised abdominal and pelvic massage techniques that work into the abdominal layers, breaking up scar tissue and fatty tissue and help reposition the uterus and pelvis after birth.
Plus I will support you emotionally with aromatherapy and even show you how to give your baby a massage that will help them sleep well and fuss less!
Many of my clients have even reported that their babies are much calmer when they’ve had holistic treatments throughout pregnancy, compared with siblings who they didn’t have treatments with!
The Benefits of Holistic Treatments in Pregnancy
Carrying a baby inside you changes your centre of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, shoulder and abdominal muscles. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, so that your pelvic joints are less stable and changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward. Add that to the extra weight you’re carrying and you may find you’ve got an aching lower back.
Sciatic nerve pain is often commonly experienced by many women in late pregnancy as the uterus rests on muscles of the pelvic floor and lower back. The pressure of the uterus spreads tension to the muscles of the upper and lower leg, causing them to swell and put pressure on nearby nerves.
Pregnancy Massage and reflexology throughout your pregnancy can help reduce this physical stress as well as help to lower stress hormones and increasing your serotonin levels (low levels of serotonin are associated with depression).
Pregnancy Care Treatments include a combination of:
Studies have shown women who had regular sessions during pregnancy had more natural and often quicker labours. The deep relaxation Reflexology provides can help put you in the right state of mind and help you to cope with labour better. Pressure points on the feet are worked which directly relate to areas of the body you may be having discomfort in. Working the entire foot, we clear the energy pathways within the body which creates a balanced body and mind.
As well as helping with aches, stiffness, mobility and inflammation, massage will help you to feel more comfortable in your body, improve your sleep and energy – something you definitely need before going into labour and birthing your baby!
Massage can help with headache, sore neck and shoulders, backache, pelvic pain, leg cramps and restless legs.
Breathing & Visualisation
As a qualified Hypnobirthing instructor, I can teach you breathing and relaxation to support and empower you during the birth of your baby.
Each session we will practice the breathing and you will listen to a positive visualisation audio.
Massage for Labour
On one of the sessions you are welcome to bring your birthing partner and I can teach them simple massage and reflexology to use during your labour.
It’s also useful if they learn the breathing techniques so they can guide you through them at stages when you may forget to use them!
Essential oils are a great way to support you physically and emotionally throughout pregnancy. Women are often concerned with which oils are safe to use and I can keep you well informed on this as an aromatherapist who has studied oils in pregnancy and who used essential oils (with great results) during my last pregnancy. I used them to keep blood pressure regulated throughout my second pregnancy, as it was high in my first (when I didn’t use oils).
Post natal, I’m not sure I would have survived with 2 under 2’s without my essential oils for emotional support!
Of course babies will come when they are ready! But there are a few things we can try to encourage the release of Oxytocin, the hormone that stimulates labour.
I use a combination of massaging acupressure points, essential oils and reflexology and many of my clients have found themselves going into labour naturally within 24-48 hours of the treatment and even having shorter labours compared with pregnancies when they didn’t have the treatment!
I’m including this in the program because it’s crucial. If you want your body back, your pelvis and lower back strengthened, your hormones back to normal, and your periods to not give you any bother then you need post natal massage!
And don’t even get me started on the emotional support you will need! There’s one post natal session included in this program, but you can always add on more if you need them…and I think you will!
Massage plays a huge role in developing that special bond between parent and baby, while also helping alleviate common baby ailments, such as colic, constipation and wind.
You can choose from either a 1:1 session with me showing you how to give your baby a massage or you can choose to join my 5 week baby massage group classes if you prefer. This is a great way for you to meet other mums with babies the same age, and a good excuse to get you and your baby out of the house in those early stages.
