Pregnancy Treatments

Pregnancy Reflexology

Reflexology is one of the safest, most supportive therapies for pregnant women.  It is excellent during pregnancy and birth, both for the mother and her baby. Research shows that regular Reflexology treatments during pregnancy can improve the chances of a shorter, less intense labour and improve recovery time (study compiled at a hospital in England in 2014 verify this). Alongside these benefits, both mother and baby tend to be calmer and more relaxed, which can enhance bonding and breastfeeding.

We recommend regular Reflexology from 12 weeks and throughout pregnancy and weekly sessions from 32 weeks onwards.

38 weeks +

Are you overdue or worried about going overdue? Our Pregnancy Reflexology sessions from 38+ weeks will include our natural induction techniques.  We find clients who come regularly for at least 6-8 weeks prior to their due time see the best results.  We must advise that generally a one-off treatment won’t be enough, however it is always worth giving a go, as medical induction should be a last resort.  Our natural induction techniques can help elevate your natural levels of oxytocin (the hormone your body naturally produces when you are ready to birth your baby). Deep relaxation is important to allow natural stress hormones to reduce.

Pregnancy Massage

Carrying a baby inside you changes your centre of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, shoulder and abdominal muscles. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, so that your pelvic joints are less stable and changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward. Add that to the extra weight you’re carrying and you may find you’ve got an aching lower back. Sciatic nerve pain is often commonly experienced by many women in late pregnancy as the uterus rests on muscles of the pelvic floor and lower back. The pressure of the uterus spreads tension to the muscles of the upper and lower leg, causing them to swell and put pressure on nearby nerves.

Pregnancy Massage therapy may help address the inflamed nerves by helping to release the tension on nearby muscles. Receiving regular massage throughout your pregnancy may help reduce the “stress hormones” as well as increasing your serotonin levels (low levels of serotonin are associated with depression).

What to expect:
It is not recommended for pregnant women to lie on their stomach or flat on their back therefore Pregnancy massage is carried out sidelying propped with pillows for comfort. (pregnancy massage beds are not advisable they could cause damage to you and your baby!), you can read my blog post on this).

Benefits of pregnancy massage may • Help reduce physical discomforts, e.g. muscle spasm, cramp, tired legs, tension, back ache, etc. • Help to stimulate soft tissues to reduce collection of fluids in swollen joints (oedema), which also improves the removal of tissue waste, carried by the body’s lymph system. • Help with emotional problems, e.g. anxiety, depression, fear, restless, insomnia • Reduce stress and promote relaxation • Ease digestive problems • Be beneficial in preparing the body and mind for labour.

Post Natal Healing Massage

This specialised treatment with women’s wellness expert Lynn Doak, focuses on freeing restrictions within the abdominal layers caused my scar tissues and adhesions.  It also works on the position of the uterus and the pelvis which may have become misaligned during pregnancy or birth.  Using abdominal massage techniques and essential oils can also help release emotional energy to enable you to let go of birth trauma.

The treatment concludes with a sacred healing practice called “mother roasting) which seals up emotional, physical and spiritual gateways that have been opened by birth.

The recovery massage is recommended 6 weeks after a vaginal birth (provided bleeding as stopped) or 12 weeks after a C-section (providing scar is well healed).  You cannot have the massage while bleeding after birth or on your period.

I can however do mother roasting anytime after the birth, the sooner the better, it involves warmed oils and paste on the belly, belly wrapping, energy balancing and reflexology – contact Lynn for more info and to book.
